The YRD Emission Inventory
Overview >
The Yangtze River Delta (YRD) Air Pollutant Emission Inventory is a new anthropogenic and biogenic emission inventory for the YRD region (covering Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang and Shanghai) for the year 2017. It is jointly developed by Nanjing University, Shanghai Academy of Environmental Sciences and Jiangsu Provincial Academy of Environmental Science in 2021 and supported by the Major Joint Research Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Key Program for Coordinated Control of PM2.5 and Ozone for Jiangsu Province. The inventory is oriented to the needs of refined and dynamic characterization of emissions at the regional scale. By integrating multi-source data and improving the emission estimation method for typical sources, the resolution and accuracy of emission inventories at the regional scale are significantly improved.
The inventory currently provides gridded data (0.1° × 0.1°) from anthropogenic sources, which enables multiscale modeling of air quality by chemical transport models. It includes both gaseous species and aerosol species: SO2, NOx, CO, NMVOC, NH3, PM10, PM2.5, BC and OC. Emissions are aggregated into five sectors: power, industry, residential, transportation, and agriculture. The industry sector includes iron and steel, building materials, chemical and petrochemical, painting, rubber and plastics manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, non-ferrous metals, textile manufacturing, packaging and printing, other industries, architectural coatings, pesticide use, vehicle maintenance and repair, and other solvent use. The residential sector includes residential energy consumption, catering, dry cleaning, and hospital disinfectants. The transportation sector includes motor vehicles, construction machinery, shipping, agricultural machinery, and domestic aviation. The agriculture sector includes livestock, fertilizer use, soil background, nitrogen-fixing plants, and human feces.
